Etsy doesn't publish one amount. It shows yours when you open a shop, and sellers have reported about $15 to $30. Shopify and Square have no setup fee.

Cost isn't the whole story. Etsy brings shoppers to you. With a Shopify or Square store, you bring your own shoppers through social media, markets and email. A few extra Etsy sales can be worth the higher fee.

Questions makers ask

Is Etsy or Shopify cheaper?

Per sale, Shopify's card fees are lower than Etsy's, but Shopify has a monthly plan and Etsy doesn't. At low sales Etsy can cost less; as sales grow Shopify usually does. Etsy also brings shoppers to you. Put your numbers in the calculator to see your answer.

Does Etsy charge a setup fee?

Etsy says new shops may have to pay a one-time setup fee and shows the amount when you open your shop. It doesn't publish one amount; sellers have reported about $15 to $30. Type yours into the calculator, or tick "I already have an Etsy shop" to leave it out.

Is Square or Shopify better for craft shows?

Choose In person in the calculator. Square's Free plan has no monthly cost, while Shopify POS has a lower per-payment fee but needs a Shopify plan. Which costs less depends on how much you sell.

Can I sell in more than one place?

Yes. Many makers sell on Etsy, run their own site and take cards at shows. Choose Both to split your month between online and in-person sales. The Etsy row then uses Square Free for your show sales.

What isn't included?

Fees on the shipping and sales tax you collect, Etsy Offsite Ads, apps, card readers, domains and themes. Etsy and Shopify's online fees are for card payments through Etsy Payments and Shopify Payments.

How current are the fees?
